Have you ever wondered what those weird slip and sliding kids do on a Friday afternoon? Why are they wearing funny costumes? How did this all being? What do they actually do? Hold on to your pearl necklace because, we the Ngutu Times team went to find out!
Ice factor is all about training to become a school ice hockey team. The teams name is the Ngutu Kurraka. Ice factor started because Margie (the lead educator for the Ngutu seniors) organized an ice hockey team at her old school Le Fevre high school and thought it would be a good idea to start it here.
The ice factor team isn't all about ice hockey, it's about leadership, resilience, and giving it a go! There were lots of photos of people falling over and just getting back up. There was even an injury on the ice. Learners are encouraged to keep trying when they fail, give things a go, and to show leadership in the community. They even support to run the breakfast club!
We sat down with Mollie, a brand new player to the team, and this is what she had to say. Like other newcomers to Karra, Mollie was invited to join the team last year in Year 6. "I thought it would be a fun experience" she told us. "I loved it, it was so fun. I loved that I could get to know some of the older kids." After coming off the ice, Mollie shared some of her goals for the upcoming season - "I hope to improve my skills and get a bit faster and get a bit better."
You might wonder after reading this article what the rules of Ice Hockey are. The truth is, we still don't know, but we wish the Kurraka Ice Hockey team well for this year's tournaments.
